The World Forum on Energy Regulation

The World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER) is the leading international conference on energy regulation, held only once every three years. Key energy industry players, high-level policymakers, academics and regulators from all over the world gather here to engage in strategic and meaningful conversations.

Discussions on regulatory frameworks and best practices are led under the framework of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER).

When & Where

The seventh edition of the World Forum on Energy Regulation will take place in Cancun on March 20-23, 2018. Located in the heart of the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun is a world-class destination known for its hospitality industry, international connectivity and crystal-clear ocean.

This destination was the cradle of the Mayan civilization. Its symbolic value lies in the scientific contributions of the Mayan culture, which helped shape the world as we know it today. This setting is ideal, as this year’s main theme is “Regulating in a Time of Innovation”, and will focus on disruptive trends which are transforming the fundamentals of the energy value chain worldwide.

Mexico’s Energy Regulatory Commission

Mexico’s Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE, by its acronym in Spanish) is in charge of hosting the VII WFER. Ever since the enactment of Mexico’s 2013-14 landmark Energy Reform, CRE has effectively become the regulator of the mid and downstream segments of the oil and gas value chain, as well as the electricity supply chain.

The forum will be an invaluable platform to showcase Mexico’s progress implementing comprehensive energy reform. In this sense, Mexico will serve as a perfect scenario to foster a global dialogue on how to swiftly and efficiently adapt to the energy sector’s evolving reality.

CRE was granted the honor of hosting the VII WFER thanks to the support of the Ibero-American Association of Energy Regulators (ARIAE by its acronym in Spanish).
